Reconciliation is a team game. We can all work towards reconciliation and share in the rewards of a rich multicultural society and a united vision for the future.
Sporting organisations
- Display the Queensland government information sheets. You can get more copies by contacting the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy.
- Develop reconciliation messages and display them in your newsletters and club rooms.
- Research and recognise the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders to your sport with a photo gallery and articles in your newsletter.
- Organise a charity sporting match with a reconciliation theme.
- Form a relationship with a school in an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community. Consider running sporting clinics, organising club exchanges, donating prizes for student achievements and promoting healthy lifestyles.
- Adopt a policy to include recognition of traditional owners in formal club business and official occasions such as presentation nights.
- Research the Indigenous history of the area where your club is located.
- Promote what you learn about the history of your area to your members through newsletters or displays.
- Fly the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at your club house or grounds.
- Ask your members what they would like to do for reconciliation.
- Check out the reconciliation stories and add your own story or event to the Queensland Government Reconciliation website.
