What is the Young Indigenous Leaders' Forum?

The Young Indigenous Leaders' Forum is part of the Queensland Government's Reconciliation Action Plan, launched by the Premier in 2001. It aims to recognise and encourage successful reconciliation initiatives.

The Reconciliation Action Plan includes the Young Indigenous Leaders' Forum, a Reconciliation Business Forum and a Reconciliation Awards for Business ceremony.

Who is the forum for?

The forum is for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, aged 18 to 25 years who are a permanent resident of Queensland and have an interest in discussing issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

How are applicants selected?

The Office for Youth, Department of Communities, selects applicants based on responses to the selection criteria. The Office for Youth selects a balanced mix of participants based on gender, backgrounds and geographical location.

Where and when will the Young Indigenous Leaders Forum be held?

The next Young Indigenous Leaders' Forum will be held at Parliament House, Brisbane on 24 - 27 May 2009. On Thursday 28 May participants are expected to attend the first Indigenous Youth Parliament.

Who will pay?

The Office for Youth will cover costs for young people to attend and participate in the forum, including accommodation and transport associated with the event. The Office for Youth will work with successful applicants to arrange travel and accommodation.
