A lot of Indigenous people think that the responsibility is on elders and older people to lead but young people have a role to play in showing leadership.

A leader is someone who chooses the right path.

The young people here in my community are the leaders of tomorrow. They should start to gain the skills needed to go further in life and to make our community flourish.

Major issues today for young people is gaining the respect from our elders that we are responsible enough to make decisions and to help towards improving Indigenous issues.

The Young Indigenous Leaders’ Forum benefits young people by providing them with the opportunity to learn about leadership and to discuss issues from their own communities.

I was very scared going into the forum and I didn’t know what to expect but after it you feel very proud to be chosen for the forum.

I decided to apply for the Young Indigenous Leaders’ Forum so that I can meet other young people from around Queensland who are facing some of the same issues that I am in my community.

If you get the opportunity to participate in the forum go do it. It is extremely positive, you make friends that you will have for life, and you will develop skills.
Basically it takes leadership to whole other level.

Enjoy the moment and embrace it. It’s going to be the best three to four days you will ever have meeting young people.
I think just embrace the moment.
