The Premier's awards message
My government is committed to supporting businesses that support reconciliation.
I am proud to announce that the 2008 Reconciliation Awards for Business are now open. These awards recognise and reward Queensland businesses, communities and individuals that support reconciliation and acknowledge our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories.
The awards, now in their sixth year, have become a tradition of the Smart State, ensuring we celebrate and acknowledge our achievements of positive reconciliation practice in the workplace.
I encourage Queenslanders to nominate reconciliation success stories in your community through individual artists, small community practices, large corporations or partnered projects worthy of due recognition.
In 2007, Lawn Hill and Riversleigh Pastoral Holding Company won an award for their innovative training programs. This company manages cattle stations on land traditionally belonging to the Waanyi people in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Far North Queensland. Lawn Hill and Riversleigh Pastoral Holding Company’s training program focuses on technical training, personal development and exposure to opportunities for the development of social skills to empower Indigenous youth.
I look forward to revealing more of these success stories and announcing the winners in May 2008.
Nominate your business or one in your community that supports reconciliation – it's everyone’s business.

PREMIER OF QUEENSLAND
